R.E.A.C.H. Week™ 

The PTA is proud to have R.E.A.C.H. Week™ as our major fundraiser for the 2008-2009 school year. R.E.A.C.H. Week™ stands for Reading Education Awareness in a Child's Home and is an easy reading activity designed to promote literacy as well as help provide funding for all the great things that our PTA does. This fundraiser has no products to sell and no door-to-door solicitation. This campaign reinforces the value of learning in school, at home, and throughout life; honors the importance of family time together; and connects our school with sponsors outside our immediate community. 

The campaign is conducted over two non-sequential weeks. The first week will be kicked off on September 16th with a magician's assembly and a packet of sponsor letters coming home in your child's backpack. The students agree to participate by filling out the sponsor letters and sending them back to school in their backpacks. The sponsors can either choose to make a flat donation or sponsor the students a certain amount per minute read. The second week is our Reading week and will be conducted between October 4-10. Students will keep track of the number of minutes they read at home and at school. Our goal is to have ALL STUDENTS READ 300 MINUTES in a week. However, all students who agree to participate will benefit from the program and receive the prize incentives. The R.E.A.C.H. Week™ company will bill the sponsors that pledged a per minute rate and will send a thank you note to all of our sponsors! 

Last year over half the students in Candlewood participated and the PTA raised over $9,000 (net) with this activity! We hope to be even more successful this year. The PTA is excited about this very easy, effective, and worthwhile educational fundraiser for our school. We encourage all of our families to support this effort.
